USC commit Matt Barkley (6-foot-3, 226 pounds) was making all the throws Sunday night against collegiate-level competition. The top rated pro-style passer according to Rivals.com was making all the throws – including a 35-yard touchdown pass off his back foot to Miami-commit Jamal Reid. If Mark Sanchez forgoes his senior season, expect Barkley to push Mitch Mustain at the top of the Trojan’s depth chart.
Athlete Greg Reid (5-9, 175, undecided) showed great ball skills coming away with two interceptions. He is the No. 11 Athlete and is a threat with the ball in his hands whether from a turnover or in the return game.
No. 7 defensive end Justin Chiasson (6-4, 252, Oklahoma) was a force with two first-half sacks. The top-rated outside linebacker, Jelani Jenkins (6-2, 220, undecided), was all over the field making plays sideline to sideline. A couple of LSU commits stood out as well – No. 1 Dual-Threat QB Russell Sheppard (6-1, 179) and No. 1 safety Craig Loston (6-2, 193). Sheppard might not have the arm strength to play QB for Les Miles but they will find a way to get the football in his hands. Loston is yet another top-flight safety and will excel under new LSU defensive coordinator John Chavis like Eric Berry did during his run at Tennessee.
